AS part of the Lions 100 year celebrations, Sunshine Lions and Brimbank Leos, in conjunction with the Jackaroo 4WD Club, planted over 100 trees in the Clunes area in Central Victoria. This area had been damaged by flood and fire and desperately need trees to help with the regeneration of the natural vegetation.
It wa great to see Lions and Leos working in tandem for a great project.
The residents of Woornack Aged Care were visited by Santa with his helpers from the Sunshine Lions Club and the Brimbank Leos Club. This is an annual project of the Sunshine Lions Club. A specially prepared gift was given to each of the residents to help them have a great Christmas.
Three students from Marian College, Jenny, Ari and Adithi recently donated books for young people which they had collected as part of a class project. Our club will forward them on to Samoa as part of the Hand Across the Pacific project.
On the 11th of August Lion Chris Detlefsen received his 50 year Monarch in recognition of service to Lions. Visitors and friends joined the club for this auspicious occasion. District Governor Terry Heazlewood presented the Certificate and badge in recognition of this service to the Sunshine Community. He was astounded that Chris was off to Samoa to unload the container and rectify some plumbing works in Saleapaga. PDG Kerry Cook highlighted Chris’s many achievements as a lion. Including 5 time president of Sunshine Lions, Life Member, Melvin Jones Fellow and two terms on District. The night concluded with immediate past president Geoff Darker proposing a toast to Chris followed by enjoying special cup cakes to mark the evening.

Bill joined Apex in 1963 and held positions of Secretary, Treasurer, President and District Governor District 10. For his service he was awarded Life Membership.
He joined the Lions Club of Sunshine in 1976 and served with distinction being President 79-80, Secretary 1982 – 2006 and Zone Chairman 87-88. He was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship in 1994 and made a Life Member in 2005.
Lions was Bill’s life until he met and married Lorraine, then it was a shared love. (Lorraine’s words)
His last task for the club was to write up the last 10 years of our history for our 60th Anniversary. As his health deteriorated he still kept abreast of Club activities receiving the monthly minutes.
In all Bill served Sunshine and the wider Lions Community for nearly 53 years. An outstanding achievement.
We honour his memory and are grateful for his lifetime of service.

On May 20th at the Glengala Hotel, Sunshine the Leo Club of Brimbank celebrated its formation and charter. Approximately 70 guest saw 28 young people become the charter members of the Club. District Governor Stewart Pyers performed the induction of the new members and installation of the office bearers.
